Harder than alabaster but softer than marble, limestone sculpture may be placed either indoors or in the garden. If limestone is kept outdoors, its surface hardens and may develop a patina of moss or lichen. The original block from which I carved this head was covered in moss, and I preserved as much of it as I could on the base of the sculpture.
