"Kore" is the name given to the statues of young women sculpted in pre-classical Greece. The name is also associated with the goddess Artemis, or Diana, and generally with the Goddess in her maiden incarnation. Harder than alabaster but softer than marble, limestone sculpture may be placed either indoors or in the garden. If limestone is kept outdoors, its surface hardens and may develop a patina of moss or lichen.
